Cinco de Mayo and Mothers’ Day at Signature

In May, there are several important and fun holidays to celebrate this month. We here at Signature encourage all of our residents to let loose and enjoy celebrating Cinco De Mayo and Mother’s Day in beautiful Reston, VA.

The fifth of May, known as Cinco de Mayo, is an annual holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War, on May 5th.

Also known as the Battle of Puebla Day, this holiday is actually a minor holiday in Mexico. However, in the United States, the holiday plays a larger role. Used as a day for partying and celebrating Mexican culture and heritage.

Mothers’ Day then takes place on May 14th. first celebrated in 1908, founded by Anna Marie Jarvis in the United States. The start of Mother’s Day as we know it now was actually started by Anna Jarvis’ mother, Ann Jarvis.

Later in life, Anna Jarvis did not appreciate the commercialization of Mother’s Day. This year, celebrate Mother’s Day the old-fashioned way at Signature. You don’t need flowers and fancy dinners to show your appreciation for your Mom this year. Make homemade cards, make her breakfast in bed, or do some extra chores around the house. Figure out the best ways to celebrate your Mother at no cost this year.
